Parabola’s second album is an all-acoustic affair. Jack DeSalvo plays classical guitar, mandola (mandolin’s slightly bigger sister) along with 5-string banjo, Lee Marvin’s alternately singing and roaring double-bass and drummer Tom Cabrera’s multitudinous repository of world percussion give their music an earthy sheen. The interplay is so sympathetic that you might overlook the sheer virtuosity on display.

Lee Marvin had this to say about the title tune, And So We Sailed, “I wrote the song for that session. The idea of the history the three of us have as friends and finding a particular collective language at this point in our lives was on my mind. The session allowed us to act on that appreciation and turn it into music.”

Le Départ and Vela are distinct voyages of their own, traversing surprising musical territory. Orenda is a native North American Huron term referring to the power existing in nature that enables people to transcend powerful forces such as fate. Humas is dark earth made of organic material . Both And So We Sail and Orenda both reprise in the album as alternate paths through newly discovered territory. Embark on a journey with this remarkable trio.
